Harper is a small ranching community on Hwy 290 west of Fredericksburg — open limestone hills, scattered live oaks, and working cattle country that's drier and more wide-open than the areas closer to Austin. There aren't big subdivisions out here; most properties are ranches, farms, and rural acreage tracts that have been in families for generations. Trail work in the Harper area is mainly private ranch access routes and equestrian paths across large landholdings — the kind of trails that need to handle livestock and weather without falling apart.
